On Sunday the Italian coast guards issued a statement in which it announced that they have used numerous vessels to rescue the . Among them there were also a Irish and a Norwegian ship. Problems with continue to increase. As people flee countries dominated by war such as Syria, Europe is finding itself invaded with a record number of that seek refuge.

The refugees were travelling in overcrowded boats or even in inflatable dinghies. The coast guard explains that because of these conditions the Mediterranean has become a very dangerous crossing point for people looking to reach Europe by boat. This year alone close to 2300 people have already died while crossing the Mediterranean. International Organisation for Migration explains that this is the reason why many migrants are seeking now other routes to Western Europe.
