Israelis came to mournful, two-minute standstill Thursday. Sound of sirens remembered the 6 million Jews killed in the Nazi Holocaust during World War II. Cars and buses pulled over on the side of highways and roads. Motorists stepped out of their cars and pedestrians stopped in their tracks. Ceremonies are held around the country. Names of those killed are read out at parliament later in the day. The central point in the Remembrance Day this year was Yad Vashem Memorial in Jerusalem. It’s a day commemorated by Jewish communities and individuals worldwide. Every year in the United State too, Days of Remembrance are observed by state and local governments, military bases, workplaces, schools, churches, synagogues, and civic centers.
