The proposal is thought to be both a way to create new cities and jobs in parts of Siberia and Russia and also a way to offer a major new transportation route. Russian Railways head Vladimir Yakunin explained that with this highway a new network of pipelines for both gas and oil can also be built. Not only this but a powerful infrastructure for water supplies and electricity could be also built.

As expected the offer which sounds too good to pass also comes with a high price which could be in the terms of trillions of dollars. The currently longest route operated by the Russian Railways is over 10000 km long starting from Moscow and going to Pyongyang, North Korea. The journey from start to end on this route takes around nine days.
