“We need to get Ebola under control in the near term so that it doesn’t spread further and become a long term global health crisis that we end up fighting for decades at large scale, like HIV or polio” they said. This occurred when the World Health Organization () reported that the Ebola death rate has increased from 50% to 70% and killed 4,447 people up to date. Zuckerberg family previously donated $1 billion to various educational and health and science foundations in 2013. The actual donation will be used by the United States’ Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Ebola response effort in Guinea, Liberia and and other places in the world where Ebola is a threat.

As it is known, there are currently no licensed Ebola vaccines but 2 potential candidates are undergoing evaluation. CDC Foundation Charles Stokes appreciated the donation with the hope this will be the beginning example to help raise funds for medical combat against Ebola.
