Meriam Ibrahim was sentenced to death in his country over charges of apostasy because she married with a Christian from southern Sudan, in 2011. Muslim women in Sudan are prohibited from marrying non-Muslims. Meriam’s father was a Muslim but her mother was an Orthodox Christian. Before flying to the US, Ibrahim’s family took refuge at the U.S. embassy in Khartoum. Sudanese community in the US greeted them on the American airport. The 27-year-old Sudanese Christian Dr. Meriam Yahia Ibrahim lived a succession of dramatic episodes.At the time of sentencing, Meriam was eight months pregnant with her second child. Meriam’s 20-month-old son, Martin, has been with her in prison since her arrest on Feb. 17, his Christian father being considered by the Sudanese government as an unfit father. Now, it seems that the major problems of this Sudanese family are over. Finally, the Court of Cassation from Sudan cancelled the apostasy and adultery accusations.
