“It is a great honor. I’m a great admirer”, Mr.Obama said.
The White House is hoping for a better relationship between the President and the actual Pope. They were expected to discuss their mutual interest in addressing income inequality and about the immigration. What is, however, a visible difference between the White House and the Vatican, is related to some controversial subjects as the gay marriage, contraception and abortion. The church doctrine is absolutely opposed to such problems.
The Italian media presented the expectations of the American President from this visit in an interview published Thursday. He insisted saying that he hopes to share with the Pope his efforts to correct the income inequality. Obama knows and affirms that the Pope is not only a very popular person but at the same time one of the most respected people in the world, who “with a single can focus global attention on an urgent issue.”
The American President arrived in Italy as part of a six-day trip to the Netherlands and Belgium.
