”The United States arrangement for its leader to meet the Dalai would be a gross interference in China’s internal affairs and is a serious violation of the norms of international relations”, said in a statement Hua Chunying, the spokeswoman of the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
The previous two meetings between Obama and Dalai Lama were not followed by a significant change in the American attitude. On the other part, Chinese President Xi Jinping affirmed many times that China is interested to build “a new brand of relations between major powers”, with new and positive principles, as non-conflict and non-confrontation.
Explaining the American interest to obtain information from the Dalai Lama, a spokeswoman for the White House National Security Council said: “We are concerned about continuing tensions and deteriorating human rights situation in Tibetan areas of China.” She added to explain more: “We will continue to urge the Chinese government to resume dialogue with the Dalai Lama or his representatives without preconditions, as a means to reduce tensions.”
President Obama will meet Dalai Lama in the White House Map Room, with less significance than the Oval office.
