Four China security officials sent to jail over watermelon vendor’s death

The man and his wife were trying to sell watermelons in a place where such activities were not allowed. He died after a fight with security officials. Deng's death triggered multiple protests and public outcry over the abuse of power. 

The security men that assaulted Deng Zhengjia faced trial for their action in a court in Hunan. They were al found guilty and got jail terms sentences ranging from 11 years to 3 and a half years.

Chengguan patrols work with police across China. The security forces help keep regulations and city rules but have a bad reputation among many Chinese. They are considere poorly supervised and poorly trained. The incident led to the dismissal of senior officials after it set off a wave of online criticism.
