Some factors were favorable to al-Qaeda. The departure of Americans made it easy to better organize the attacks and to make them more frequent. The most recent terrorist attacks were the bombings on Christian areas of Baghdad, which killed more than two dozen people.
The help provided by the US to Iraq against al-Qaeda will consist also in valuable military information, because the American intelligence and counterterrorism mapped the locations and origins of the al Qaeda network in Iraq. The American help is expected to dismantle the al Qaeda threat in Iraq in a short time, over the coming weeks and months. Other help in the future will be possible based on three additional reconnaissance helicopters and the delivery of the first of the F-16 fighters Iraq has bought.
