The whole scandal behind Justine Sacco's tweet erupted while she was reportedly mid-flight and had no Internet access. Social media was not forgiving. Twitter quickly had the hashtag #HasJustineLandedYet as a trending hashtag. A parody account named @LOLJustineSacco was also created.
Sacco's employer distanced itself from the "hateful statements". The company issued a statement in which it detailed that there was no excuse for the statements made by Justine Sacco and that the woman was fired. IAC also expressed its hope that "time and action, and the forgiving human spirit, will not result in the wholesale condemnation of an individual who we have otherwise known to be a decent person at core."
