Pope Francis was designated TIME magazine’s Person of the Year

He is the first Jesuit Pope, the first Pope from the Americas, the first from the Southern Hemisphere and the first non-European Pope since Pope Gregory III. Pope Francis is the leader of the world’s 1.2 billion Catholics.
He has been noted during his entire life for his humility, his concern for the poor and his commitment to dialogue as a way to build bridges between people of all backgrounds, beliefs, and faiths. As a Pope, his manner is less formal than that of his predecessors. He wants to change things and attitudes in the Catholic Church. Pope Francis was named the most popular person on the Internet on November 18 this year.
Last year, the selected Person of the Year was the President Barack Obama.
