American counterterrorism operations in two African countries

Another operation on the same day, after a few hours, was in Tripoli, the Lybian capital. The objective in this case was very similar, the Americans were interested to capture a Lybian al-Qaeda leader involved in the 1998 bombings of the US Embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. As it is known, Al-Shabab, which has a formal alliance with al-Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the recent attack on a mall in Nairobi, Kenya. It is supposed that the al-Shabab leader was the target of Saturday’s raid.
The American commandos were assisted by the FBI and CIA agents. The raid was planned more than a week ago. A Somali government official spoke on the condition of anonymity: “The attack was carried out by the American forces and the Somali government was pre-informed about the attack.”
No Americans had been killed.
