And this is not a joke! Two men in New Guinea died from blood loss after a Pacu has bitten theirs. On the other part of the world, a toddler needed surgery after a Pacu bit her finger at Edinburg Butterfly and Insect World in Scotland. Commenting this last incident, Deep Sea World zoological manager Matthew Kane said: “Pacu will eat everything.”
Pacu is a term of Brazilian Indian origin. It acts like Piranha but is not so aggressive. Some aquarium owners have Pacu but the fish is growing too much. In the world, beyond its native place, the fish was found in many places, including Denmark, France and some American states.
Being an exotic fish, Pacu can’t survive cold temperatures. So, at least theoretically, it doesn't pose a threat to spring swimmers.
