The real cause of the accident is not yet known but witnesses from the scene said that the bus plowed through a closed barrier. People from the bus say that the driver “didn’t slow down and the bus just impacted with the train.” The driver supposedly had an attack because he had no reaction when some passengers warned about the imminent collision. Bodies were on the train tracks after the accident. Emergency crews arrived within minutes. Transport Canada officials and Transportation Safety Board investigators arrived at the scene. Via Rail cancelled trains between Ottawa and Toronto after the accident. Woodroffe Avenue was partially closed. Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson evaluated the crash as the worst in the city’s history. Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper expressed on Twitter compassion for the families of victims.
