Assad's regime urged civilian evacuations in Damascus and moved soldiers into empty apartments, many of them abandoned by refugees in the last two years. Military movements with armored vehicles and trucks equipped with antiaircraft guns were observed in the Syrian territory. The residents were obliged to move away from military base areas.
As it was specified by a Syrian official, the Syrian army will take action together with Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah. A Parliament member said:
“The resistance and the armed forces are now one body. In my assessment, Hezbollah will ride with Syria in certain operations targeting warships in the Mediterranean.”
Experts say the Lebanese group and Syria have long-range missiles. Hezbollah’s leader Hassan Nasrallah have not yet made public comments related to the subject.
The number of refugees fleeing Syria’s violence has surpassed 2 million. Many of them are now on the new refugee camp near the city of Arbil in Irak’s Kurdistan region.
