Overall, Obama condemned the arbitrary arrests and the violence.
What the US President clearly told is that democracy is in trouble in Egypt and because of this America will use its possibilities to influence the interim government.
“The cycle of violence and escalation needs to stop”, said Obama, urging the Egyptian interim government to respect the rights of protesters.
As a direct consequence of bad decisions made by the Egyptian military, the American President announced the cancellation of a planned joint military exercise between U.S and Egypt. He explained that America will not collaborate with a country where civilians are killed in the streets.
The total number of deaths in the last confrontation in Egypt is reported differently from the two sides: the governmental sources announced 525 and the Muslim Brotherhood – 2,600.
