Ever since Snowden decided to hide in Hong Kong to escape prosecution for espionage charges US officials tried to do everything they could to extradite him.
Because of a technicality Snowden was allowed to flee Honk Kong. U.S. requests did not fully comply with the law and before U.S. got to fix some papers and add new information to its extradition request Snowden was long gone. This will most likely cause stress in relations between Hong Kong and the United States.
At the same time Snowden’s Pardon Petition reached over one hundred thousand signatures. The petition asks the U.S. president to pardon the NSA contractor who leaked details about U.S. surveillance activities to news media. An official response from the presidential administration was not yet offered but will soon be made public.
