US denounces Russia after it sent anti-ship missiles to Syria

New York Times reported the recent delivery of the Yakhont anti-ship cruise missiles and soon after Washington held a news conference. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, general Martin Dempsey, characterized the move as being an “unfortunate decision that will embolden the regime and prolong the suffering.”

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel explained: “What we don’t want to see happen, the Russians don’t want to see happen, is for Syria to erupt to the point where we may well find a regional war in the Middle East” and then urged Russia to rethink its military aid.

Earlier on Friday US State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki declared that US wasn’t aware of new shipments of weapons. Now, after Dempsey’s comments, it seems that it might be possible that Russia already sent or wants to send extra new shipments of weapons. This is worrying news as this is the second time for the Obama administration when such a report arises.
