Hagel made a telephone call to the Chinese Defense Minister, Chang Wanquan. In that call, Hagel expressed his concerns to the Chinese counterpart by saying that North Korea’s quest for nuclear weapons is posing threats and the two countries should continue working together to solve these issues. The Defense Secretary also emphasized on the significance of the dialog between China and US. The call was described in the statement released by the Pentagon spokesman, George Little. In that statement, George Little also revealed that the Head of the Joint Chiefs, Martin Dempsey is scheduled to pay a visit to China in the later part of April. The trip would be General Dempsey’s first visit to China after being appointed as the head of the Joint Chiefs.
The Defense secretary, Hagel has also invited the Chinese minister of defence to pay a visit to the US in 2013.
