The police discovered 39 bodies in a lorry container at Waterglade Industrial Park in Eastern Avenue, Grays, Essex. Emergency services rushed to Waterglade Industrial Park, Eastern Avenue, Grays, at roughly 1.40am this morning.
All 39 people were pronounced dead at the scene. Essex Police said the vehicle travelled from Bulgaria and entered the UK via Holyhead, Anglesey, on Saturday. 38 adults and one teenager have died. They were illegal migrants who were died in transit.The lorry driver has been arrested on suspicion of murder. He is a 25-year-old man from Northern Ireland. Prime Minister Boris Johnson told it was an "unimaginable tragedy and truly heartbreaking". Home Secretary Priti Patel said she was "shocked and saddened by this utterly tragic incident."
A murder investigation has been launched. The National Crime Agency said it had sent officers to assist the investigation. A cordon remains in place and access to the Industrial Park remains closed. „I appreciate this cordon is going to disrupt the activity of local businesses in the area and we will work to ensure that disruption is kept as short as possible,” Chief Superintendent Andrew Mariner said. He also said it will take time to identify all 39 victims.
