An internal collapse occured Saturday at a Russian university building

Around two dozen peoples were trapped inside but not under the rubble and many dozens were evacuated from the building. About 20 of those evacuated were foreign students attending a weekend class. Renovations were taking place at the building. It’s supposed that the technical requirements during refurbishment had been violated. Medics, police and the fire brigade were at the scene. An area of 150 square meters has collapsed.

No immediate injuries or casualties were reported. “No victims, no injured,” St. Petersburg acting governor Alexander Beglov told journalists. ITMO is one of Russia’s national research universities. The moment of the collapse appears to have been caught on camera. A video uploaded online shows a ceiling on one of the floors cracking as plaster drops to the ground. A criminal investigation into the collapse has been launched, Russia’s Investigative Committee has said.
