Fire broke out at 5.39pm on Friday, triggering over 50 calls from the public. The London Fire Brigade said 50 residents evacuated before the Brigade arrived. It was a fire in a block of flats by the North Mall in Edmonton. One man has been led to safety through an internal staircase. Clouds of smoke were seen billowing into the air. The cause of the fire was not known. Grampian House is 25 storeys and is one of three tower blocks on the Edmonton Green Estate in Enfield by the North Mall. There are 188 flats in the tower block.
There have been no reports of casualties and the blaze was under control before 7.30pm. Tfl Bus Alerts tweeted about delays toward Edmonton Green bus station but did not specify if the fire was the reason. The blaze has brought back memories of the devastating Grenfell Tower fire in west London. A total of 72 people were killed in the blaze on June 14 last year.
