Emergency teams in the resort of Ericeira , Portugal, about 30 miles north of Lisbon ,found a mobile phone on the wall where a couple was found death at Pescadores beach, which is popular with surfers.
"Everything seems to indicate the fall happened when they were probably trying to take a selfie. It seems they dropped their mobile phone and fell down while leaning over to retrieve it," Rui Pereira da Terra, head of the local rescue service, said. They fell above more than 30 meters. The couple was a man in his 40s and a woman in her 30s, one from Britain and other from Australia. The report did not name the couple. They were discovered Tuesday by a beach cleaner.
"The Department [of Foreign Affairs and Trade ] has been in contact with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office regarding the other person who died in the incident," a spokesman said. It's thought the tragic fall happened between 1am and 6am on Tuesday local time. The fishing town of Ericeira is a popular spot for surfers and holidaymakers, and is renowned for its seafood restaurants and nightlife. Praia dos Pescadores, or Fishermans Beach, is surrounded by cliffs and a 40-meters high wall. It is not the first time tourists have fallen off the wall. Many tourists take pictures on that location, by the enormous coastal wall.
