Attack with knife, many injured at a school in the city of Sterlitamak, Russia

At least two people threw themselves from a window in an attempt to escape. The student stabbed them with a knife and later attempted to set a room on fire after spilling a flammable substance. Panic sparked in nearby classes. Witnesses declared the suspect may also have attempted to commit suicide. He is believed to be a follower of the Columbine High School massacre. The attacker is in custody and hospitalized. A criminal case on an attempted murder of two or more people has been brought against him.  A negligence case against officials tasked with preventing underage crime was also opened. The officials had received warnings about the students’ “aggressive behavior” before the attack.

“According to our information, four injured people, including three children, were transported to a hospital in Sterlitamak. They are in grave condition,” Russia’s health ministry said after incident. The suspect  is believed to have posted worrying and violent material on social media in recent days. “It was established that earlier there were complaints to the prevention authorities about the aggressive behavior of the 17-year-old teenager,” the Investigative Committee said in a statement. Some deadly school shootings and stabbings has hit Russia over the past year.
