100,000 homes and businesses without water in Glasgow, Tuesday


Around 100,000 homes and businesses in Glasgow have been left without water after a pipe burst in Milngavie caused flooding around 4pm on Tuesday. Several roads closed. Properties affected are in the G1, G2, G3, G4, G5, G11, G12, G13, G15, G20, G51 and G61 Bearsden postcodes in the city The authority later located the burst main on Auchenhowie Road in Milngavie. Local nursery Lullaby Lane had to be evacauted. A Scottish Water spokeswoman said: “This is a major burst which is impacting a lot of our customers and we want to reassure them we are working as quickly as possible to carry out this repair and restore supplies.


Glasgow Police stated: “Due to significant flooding of the A81 (Glasgow Road) at its junction with the A807 (Auchenhowie Road) and the surrounding area, the following road closures are now in place: Auchenhowie Rd closed at the roundabout junction with Boclair Rd; A81 (Glasgow Rd) closed at the roundabout junction with B8030; A81 shut at Dougalston Ave. Please avoid the area until further notice and heed advice re alternative routes.” By 9.30pm only half of affected water supplies were restored. Emergency services were in the area.
