Venice, in Italy, wants to be terrorism free


The mayor remembered the past episode when the Rialto bridge was targeted of terrorist acts saying:  “They said they wanted to go and meet Allah so we will send them straight to Allah without having to throw them off the bridge, we will just shoot them.” Luigi Brugnaro is an independent Italian politician and entrepreneur who became the mayor of Venice on June 2015.  He is the owner of the Reyer Venezia Mestre basketball team, a past chairman of Confindustria Venice and a former president of Assolavoro. As the mayor of Venice, he previously banned some books about discrimination and / or homosexuality from the city’s schools and declared that there will be no gay pride parade in Venice.


Concerns about terrorism threats in Venice are issued in relation of tourism, which increased in the area multiple times. Venice always was a big attraction and will continue to be for people all around the world. This is why the mayor enforced his words affirming strong decision: “”We need to increase our security when it comes to terrorism.” On Sunday, September 3, will be organized the historical regatta, a parade along the Grand Canal with participation of typical boats of 600 century with on board Gondoliers costume and figures of the Doge, the Dogaressa and all the highest offices of the Venetian judiciary. The city also prepares
for the Venice Glass Week, the first edition of the International Festival of the City of Venice dedicated to the art of glass, in particular the millennial art of Murano glass,  between 10 and 17 September.
