At least one person has died. Several of the injured are believed to be foreign. Four or five ambulances were near the city’s main square after attack. A number of people were reportedly seen running with knives in the city centre of Turku, on the southwest coast of Finland. Cries of “Allahu Akbar” were heared during the attack.One suspect person was arrested by Finnish police.
Lockdown in Turku, Finland
The center was put in lockdown. Major buildings in the area have also been locked down. A shopping centre in the area has been evacuated amid the chaos. Police urged people to leave the centre as they said they were searching for more possible attackers throughout the city. There are fears up to five suspects may be on the run. Prime Minister Juha Sipila tweeted: “The government is closely following the events in Turku and the ongoing police operation. The government will meet later today.” The full circumstances of the incidend remain unclear. Security at Helsinki Airport and transport hubs has been boosted in an attempt to capture the other suspects. The current threat level for terrorism in Finland is currently “elevated.”
