Manhunt underway in the Swiss city of Schaffhause, after many people were injured in an attack with chainsaw

Police were alerted at 10.39 a.m. Monday (0839 GMT) to the incident. The suspect was believed to be driving a Volkswagen vehicle with Swiss plates. Based on the information the authorities  have, the suspect was later identified as a 51-year-old man who has two previous convictions for contraventions of weapons laws.

That person, Franz Wrousis, had no fixed address but previously had been registered himself as living in the southeastern Swiss canton (state) of Graubuenden. He is on the run and described as aggressive and unstable. The van has since been recovered by police. A witness woman revealed the suspect showed up three or four weeks ago in the forest when she was walking dog and “he wasn’t unfriendly – I never felt threatened.” The suspect was also seen by other people, walking in the street with a chainsaw. Authorities issued old photos of Wrousis. Schaffhausen is a city of about 36,000 north of Zurich. Armed police officers are in the streets. They say the attack was “not a terrorist act.”
