Feeding ducks was fatal for a 3 year old British boy in Newbury, Berkshire. The child and his mother went into the Kennet and Avon Canal, close to the A339 in Newbury, Berkshire, on Saturday, police said. The boy slipped and plunged into the icy water. His mum dived in to try to save him. The “freak accident” happened just yards from Victoria Park, Newbury, which sits opposite the canal with dozens of little children playing. Emergency was called. Police were joined by firefighters and paramedics in their efforts to free the pair from the water. Both the child and mum were pulled from the water and rushed to hospital. The toddler passed away. “His family are being supported by specially trained officers,” TVP West Berkshire tweeted today. Ducks are an attraction for children on the Kennet and Avon Canal. Officers remained at the area yesterday patrolling the walkway along the Rover Kennet. People out celebrating Mother’s Day have been to the scene of the shocking incident to leave flowers and pay their respects. The child’s identity was not released.
