A house collapsed after explosion in Summerseat, a village in the Ramsbottom district of Bury, Greater Manchester,England, after 9pm on Wednesday. A major emergency response from Greater Manchester Fire Service, GMP and North West Ambulance Service was quickly prompted. The body of a 79-year-old died woman was found. Another woman and child were taken to hospital with minor injuries. Five properties were evacuated as a precaution and three people were treated at the scene for minor injuries. the cause of the collapse has not been officially confirmed. A neighbor said “there was this huge noise, like a bomb had been dropped in the middle of the street.”
Insp Jamie Collins said an investigation with the fire service, Cadent gas and local coucil was under way and the gas supply had been isolated. There was still a tangible sense of shock and disbelief amongst all those living nearby, as police and firefighters, along with utility workers and gas engineers, continued to work at the scene. A lot of people were confused. Crews would remain at the scene for the next couple of days. A large police presence remained at the property on Thursday morning. A strong smell of gas was reported in the area. Bury Council leader Eamonn O’Brien said the local authority is supporting residents at the scene.
