The fire engulfed a building before spreading to a large yard at the back full of tires. A number of eye witnesses reported seeing massive flames as the fire took hold and spread. About 50 firefighters tackled the blaze and there are still 20 firefighters at the scene. “At one side of the building that is on fire is an electrical substation which supplies a significant part of Glasgow and Govan area and at the other side there is a large storage facility,” Scottish Fire and Rescue Service’s deputy assistant chief officer Peter Heath said. Power was restored before 10pm. Water reportedly had to be pumped from the Clyde. Smoke was billowing high above Glasgow and is expected to last for days.
