French artist will stay many days inside a stone

A space the shape of his body – and air holes – have been carved into a rock. There is also a place for supplies of water, soup and dried meat. Cables will monitor his heart and provide an emergency video link. “The purpose is to feel the aging stone inside the rock,” Poincheval declared. “There is my own breathing, and then the rock which lives, still humid because it was extracted not so long ago from the quarry. So there is that flow, that coming and going, between myself and the stone.” He believes one of the biggest challenges will be psychological: keeping grasp of reality. If he emerges intact from the boulder, Poincheval plans to sit on a dozen eggs for the three or four weeks they take to hatch. However his ultimate ambition is to “walk on the clouds.”
