The purpose of the wall is to deter attacks, stopping individuals or vehicles to storm the site, after many terrorists attacks hit Paris during the past years. It’s expected to cost about $21 million. “The terror threat remains high in Paris and the most vulnerable sites, led by the Eiffel Tower, must be the object of special security measures,” Jean-Francois Martins, the assistant mayor for tourism, said.

The project also involves a complete reorganization of foot traffic around the tower. Paris will host the World Expo in 2025. “We have three aims: improve the look, make access easier and strengthen the protection of visitors and staff,” said Paris deputy mayor Jean-François Martins. When it was built. the Eiffel Tower was the tallest man-made structure in the world – a title it held for 41 years. The tower first opened on 31 March 1889. The tower is a major feature in films such as The Lavender Hill Mob and A View to a Kill.
