Burkini ban in Villeneuve-Loubet was suspended by highest court in France

The decision on Friday does not apply directly to other municipalities including the community of Nice which have imposed similar bans in France but it will be a suggest and a reference term in any future discussion about this subject. It is a major argument as a legal precedent and will be invoked in future actions against authorities’ decisions. “Normally, mayors should remove their ordinances following this decision, except if they want to race against the clock and go to court,” Marwan Muhammad, the head of the Collective Against Islamophobia in France appreciated.

The mayors of the towns with such prohibitions have argued that burkinis pose a threat to public order after multiple terrorist attacks in France in the past months, including one in Nice on July 14 that killed 86 people.
