Angela Merkel affirms Germany should welcome more refugees


“Let me be clear, we are at war with Islamic State; we are not at war with Islam,” she said. In total, more than one million refugees arrived in the country in 2015. The  Chancellor insisted would not turn its back on people fleeing the Middle East. Merkel has been criticized for her comment ever since by right-wing populists and members of her own coalition alike. She promised the central government would “redouble its efforts” against the threat, increasing staff numbers and resources for security services. . But she  refused to answer if she will be running again in the general election in 2017 or about the possibility of her stepping down amid the political pressure.
