Bad news for tourists, Barcelona banned now Segways from the waterfront for the summer months. “Technology has progressed much more quickly than any possible regulations cities could introduce,” Mercedes Vidal, mobility councilor for Barcelona, tried to explain. The council is now working on city-wide regulations, but the urgent need to decongest the area during the summer to “avoid an excessive pressure on neighbours” has prompted it to introduce a temporary ban of Segways between the W Hotel and the Olympic Port, through to 1 October. Also all unregulated vehicles will be banned. And it’s not a joke, a fine from € 90 to 1,125 was decided and will be applied.
