Armed man opened fire at Kinopolis movie theater in the town of Viernheim, Germany


The attacker has been shot dead by German special police officers. As many as 25 people were reported injured by tear gas. Later, police insisted that no one besides the attacker had been injured. The man was wearing a balaclava carrying combat boots and a “long weapon.” police had found a hand grenade and an explosives belt next to the man’s body. Police believes the gunman was a “confused individual” rather than a terrorist, even if they have no indications regarding the motive. The movie theater is part of Viernheim’s shopping center, which houses about 100 other businesses, is the only country in the world where anyone under the age of 25 who applies for their first firearms licence must undergo a psychiatric evaluation with a trained counselor. Officials have not released the attacker’s identity.
