It turns out that another worker, who was annoyed by a faulty alarm tag, wrapped it around clothes to muffle the noise. This in turn raised suspicion and made the other employee think that somebody hid a bomb in the store as he heard ticking noises coming from the clothes. The robot destroyed the faulty tag in a controlled explosion and this helped police forces confirm that there was no hidden bomb planted in the store. After the device was established as being safe there was no further action required.
A John Lewis spokesman confirmed the story and explained that the team just followed the company’s robust security measures by calling the police. Although there was no terrorist act, the shop Liverpool One complex was closed for few hours due to the confusion. Not only that but nearby roads were also closed. Due to that public transportation from and to Liverpool One bus station on Canning Place were diverted.
