Edwina was the one who called the U.K. lottery to claim the jackpot. The two quickly found out the shocking truth. Although they chose their numbers and paid for their ticket in due time it seems that they had entered the drawing too late. The ticket was purchased using a cell phone app on Dec. 23. Indeed the purchase did not go seamlessly. They were alerted of insufficient funds and had to add more money. After this the couple bought the ticket with the six numbers which were chosen randomly. As expected the couple is disappointed: “We’ve spent years paying out for the lottery and this money could have changed our lives. We feel like we’ve been cheated out of it”, Edwina declared.
Lottery officials say they have no record of the purchase. While the couple insists they got to a confirmation screen for the ticket the lottery officials claim that although they have a record of attempts to add funds in their account there was no completed transaction registered before the deadline. A National Lottery spokeswoman tried to clarify the situation: “When anyone successfully purchases a ticket on the Lottery website they will see a purchase confirmation screen, receive an email confirming their purchase and be able to see the ticket in their account”.
