Even smartphones are broken in collisions between pedestrians. To preventing pedestrian pavement collisions, the authorities in the Belgian city of Antwerp provided some “text walking lanes” onto a number of busiest shopping streets. The markings on the ground are in highly visible white paint. The initiative is the brainchild of a smartphone store based in the city. “Everyone text-walks. You probably walk through the streets while texting or sending WhatsApp messages to your friends and don’t really pay attention to your surroundings — only to whatever is happening on your screen. This causes collisions with poles or other pedestrians,” a spokesperson of the local mobile firm Mlab told to the media. Antwerp is the first city in Europe with a such experiment.
