The attack took place soon after the school day started. Witnesses said the boy arrived late for school and that, when a female teacher opened the door, he fired the crossbow at her face. The two wounded students and one of the injured teachers were taken to Barcelona hospitals for treatment. A teacher at the school described the boy as “very friendly to teachers.” However, he previously told to some classmates that he has listed 25 names of teachers and pupils he intended to kill but none had taken him seriously. The police have detained the boy but they did not identify the suspect because of his age. In Spain, children under age 14 are not held legally responsible for crimes and cannot be jailed or placed in juvenile detention centers. The school was closed on Monday in tribute to the teacher who was killed.
