Big underground fire in London Wednesday, thousands were evacuated

People were evacuated from offices and flats in Kingsway, Holborn, including judges, lawyers and staff at the nearby Royal Courts of Justice on the Strand. At that time, a spokesman for LFB said: ‘We are still waiting for the utility companies and a steer on what we can do. The fire continues to still burn. There are a lot of electrical cables down there. But we cannot tackle it effectively until the power situation has been resolved.’ Many fire engines and firefighters were on the scene. ‘Chaos’ was reported in the area. Brown smoke was rising off the road. Nearby shops and cafes were plunged in to darkness. The fire crews and police officers cordoned off the area. At least eight West End shows were cancelled due to power cuts. The fire was brought under control shortly before 9pm but firefighters remained on site overnight. Fortunately, LFB said there have been no reports of injuries.
