Following this new twist in the Westminster scandal, a public inquiry into child abuse amid concerns was called. A top lawyer will be assigned to investigate how the Government handled one of the high-level paedophile activity dossiers. The dossier in question was reportedly given by Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens in 1983 to Home Secretary Leon Brittan. Then it was later lost.
The Home Office permanent secretary, Mark Sedwill, revealed for the first time that a huge number of files have either been destroyed or lost in the past. Also, he admitted that previous attempts conducted internally to find the missing dossier in question have gone unsuccessful. Now, it is very important that the inquiry reports both comprehensively and promptly of the current situation as UK might be either dealing with a massive cover-up or with great incompetence.
