The ceiling collapsed at Apollo Theatre in London; people were inside

Nick Harding, from the London Fire Brigade, said to journalists: “In my time as a fire officer I’ve never seen an incident like this.”
The theatre has been almost full, 720 people were inside. A witness on the scene described the tragic accident as “a strange crackling noise” when the theatre “suddenly went dark with dust clouds everywhere.” The accident occurred on a night of rain and lightning but the cause of the collapse was not yet found. The Apollo Theatre was built in 1901, with 775 seats. Since 2005 it has been owned and operated by Nimax Theatres.
The Prime Minister David Cameron wrote on Twitter: “ I’ve been updated regularly on the Apollo incident. I’m grateful for the fast work of the emergency services in helping the injured.”
