Some political oppponents criticized Merkel for her visit at Dachau. “Anyone who was serious about commemorating such a place of horror wouldn’t pay such a visit during the election campaign” affirmed Renate Kuenast of the Greens.
However, the German Jewish community has another opinion. They received this as a good and significative signal from the part of Merkel. They consider “she showed her historical awareness and sense of responsibility.”
