In Switzerland the prostitution has been legal since 1942. It is even legal to advertise it in the newspapers. Swiss prostitutes pay VAT to the budget and even accept payment by credit cards. However, street prostitution is illegal. This was one of the motivations for this project. Authorities hope that this way the prostitutes will sell their services away from the residential areas.
This place for sex in Zurich is only for car drivers and has a work program from early evening until 5am each day. The project initiators are convinced that the sex industry will be safer for both, the clients and the prostitutes. Because it is known that violence can occur, the wooden sheds are equipped with alarms.
Prostitution is legal and regulated in another seven European countries: Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Greece, Turkey, Hungary and Latvia.
