The terrible accident happened as the Yellow Duckmarine was entering the dock. In just minutes everything went wrong due to a problem with its “splash down” landing. Nearby witnesses declared that the amphibious duck bus went down like a lead balloon and it took the bus only four minutes to disappear beneath the water.
The coast guard arrived just before 4 PM to the scene to rescue passengers. This was a top priority rescue mission. Ambulances, Police, the fire service and a royal Navy air sea rescue helicopter rushed to the scene and quickly identified and saved stranded passengers. Seventeen passengers were hospitalized and later they were all discharged.
