Ten people killed, dozens injured after a gas explosion destroyed building in India

At least 10 people died and over 30 others were injured after a two-storey building collapsed following a cylinder blast in Mau district of Uttar Pradesh on Monday morning.

A major portion of the building along with a neighboring structure were destroyed. Some of the injured are critical. It’s believed that several people are still trapped under debris. Teams of police and fire-brigade were rushed to the spot and rescue operations are underway. Locals are also helping out in the rescue operations. It was supposed the blast took place following a leakage of gas.


The house soon caught fire after the blast. People in the area said that they heard a loud explosion and flames erupted. Police said the incident occurred around 7.30 am when the women at the house in Mohammmadabad area of the district were cooking breakfast. Most of the residents of the building were sleeping at the time when the blast took place. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the family of the deceased. He has asked the district officials to ensure that the injured and families of those who have died get all the help.
