The talks have already resulted in 10 pacts between the two countries that include defense deals that are worth $4 billion. The leaders also reviewed bilateral co-operation in the field of nuclear energy.
At the last minute, venue of meeting of the two leaders was shifted from Hyderabad House to the official residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Putin came to India for a brief visit of just 18 hours. At the end of Putin’s meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Singh said that the two leaders discussed global and regional issues and on many of those issues the two countries have reached an agreement. Singh pointed out that the development of the nuclear energy program is the most vital pillar of the two countries strategic partnership. Singh further added that the construction of Unit 1 of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project has been completed and generation of power will begin soon. Unit 2 is expected to be completed by next year.
