Speaker of Singaporean Parliament Michael Palmer resigns

A member and speaker of the Singapore’s ruling party “People’s Action” has said that the action is improper and a huge error of judgment.

The woman with whom speaker Palmer had an affair worked in one of Palmer’s constituency and was an employee with a government statutory board. The statement from Palmer further read that he is resigning to in order to avoid embarrassment to the ruling party and the parliament. The ruling party has been in power since 1959.

In a statement, PM Of Singapore, Lee Hsien Loong said that all members of parliament are required to maintain the highest level of personal conduct.

As a result of the resignation, there could a by-election to fill in for the vacant seat for the Punggol East constituency represented by Palmer. The by-election is not going to happen anytime soon.
